Anime community mourns the death of Takahiro Fujiwara, a versatile voice actor behind ‘Berserk’, ‘One Piece’ and ‘My Hero Academia’
Takahiro Fujiwara, a veteran voice actor with an extensive career in animated series and video games, has passed away at the age of 43.
The anime world is reeling after the sudden death of Takahiro Fujiwara at just 43 years old.
Despite his young age, Fujiwara was already a veteran — a seiyuu with decades of work across major franchises like Berserk, My Hero Academia, and One Piece, where he delivered some of his most recognizable performances.
Fujiwara belonged to a generation of Japanese voice actors known for their versatility. Trained through Japan’s traditional acting and dubbing schools, he could shift effortlessly between energetic young characters, calm adults, and authoritative figures. That adaptability made him a reliable presence across genres, from shōnen action to fantasy to contemporary dramas.
What set Fujiwara apart wasn’t a single iconic role — it was his consistency, a trait deeply valued in the anime industry. He was the kind of actor who quietly held stories together.
A career that began astonishingly early
Fujiwara landed his first job at just 14 years old, appearing in Detective Conan. From there, his résumé grew into a who’s‑who of major anime:

- My Hero Academia — voice of Kurogiri
- One Piece — King Baum and numerous supporting characters
- Ghost in the Shell

Fujiwara also built a substantial career in gaming, lending his voice to titles such as: Rise of the Ronin, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, and Kingdom Hearts III.
His contributions helped shape the soundscape of some of the most influential Japanese games of the past decade.
