Taylor Swift leads the nominations at this weekend’s Billboard Music Awards, having been shortlisted in 20 categories. Indeed, the singer could make history.

Swift in sight of Drake’s record BBMA haul

Swift has the chance to overtake Drake as the Billboard Music Awards’ most decorated artist. She has so far won 29 BBMAs in her career - five short of the Canadian rapper’s unprecedented tally.

However, Drake is himself up for 14 awards this year, so it’s also highly feasible that he will hold on to top spot in the all-time winners’ list.

Swift also has the opportunity to break Drake’s record for winning the most BBMAs at a single edition of the awards ceremony. His 2017 haul of 13 is the figure to beat.

Billboard Music Awards 2023: how to watch on TV, online

This year, Billboard is rolling out a revamped format for its awards gala, which is to be held on Sunday 19 November 2023. According to the music magazine, viewers can expect “a reimagined award show concept that will entertain fans with music and exclusive content.”

Rather than being held inside a single arena, the ceremony will feature performances and acceptance speeches “in global locations, in the midst of sold-out tours, and in custom venues”, the organisers say.

What’s more, the Billboard Music Awards are not going to be broadcast live on any TV channels.

Instead, the event will be available to watch online at BBMAs.watch from 8pm ET/5pm PT. Music lovers can also follow all the awards announcements on the Billboard and Billboard Music Awards social-media channels, with some winners to be revealed from 5pm ET/2pm PT.

Which artists are performing for the Billboard Music Awards 2023?

Mariah Carey, who is to receive the Billboard Chart Achievement Award, will perform “All I Want for Christmas Is You”.

Morgan Wallen will sing “98 Braves” from Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, while Peso Pluma will be on show with his track “Rubicón”, in a performance that will include a special appearance by boxing legend Mike Tyson.

Tate McRae will sing “Greedy”, and Rexha and Guetta will perform “I’m Good (Blue)” and “One in a Million.”

The group Stray Kids will play two songs - “S-Class” and “LALALALA” - as will NewJeans, who are to perform “Super Shy” and “OMG”. Billboard has also confirmed that Karol G is to take to the stage.
