Bryan Cranston is one of the most recognized actors in the entertainment industry, with one of his most memorable roles being the feared drug dealer, Walter White aka Heisenberg, in ‘Breaking Bad.’ However, contrary to popular belief, this was not his most perilous role to portray. According to revelations made by the actor himself during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he almost lost his life while filming a scene for the acclaimed sitcom of the 2000s, ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ where he played the beloved family father, ‘Hal.’

How Cranston almost died in Malcolm in the Middle

The most dangerous scene in Bryan Cranston’s career belongs to the episode ‘Hal Quits’ from the second season of ‘Malcolm in the Middle.’ In this episode, Hal goes through a depressive episode after quitting his job. To cope with it, he starts experimenting with paint. At one point in the episode, Hal’s character is completely covered in blue paint. Because the thickness of the paint covered his pores, Cranston fainted on set, prompting the production team to immediately take him for a shower.

“One time, I did a thing where my character was in a depression, and he started painting, and I was completely covered in blue paint. Completely, head to toe, in blue paint,” Cranston began recounting, to which Bryce Dallas Howard quickly responded, “That’s not safe.” He then revealed the exact moment when his body gave out.

“As you shoot, you’re moving around, and then there was a part of me, at one point, I was like starting to shut down the circuits,” Cranston continued, recalling feeling dizzy. “And they went boom, and they grabbed me, and they threw me in the shower and they just… It was weird.,” he concluded.
