Cause of Robert de Niro grandson’s death is revealed
New York’s chief medical examiner has confirmed to media outlets that Leandro de Niro Rodríguez accidentally overdosed on drugs.
It has been revealed that Hollywood actor Robert de Niro’s 19-year-old grandson died from an accidental overdose brought about by a lethal combination of drugs.
New York City’s chief medical examiner has confirmed to US media outlets that Leandro de Niro Rodríguez was killed by the toxic effects of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine.
De Niro Rodríguez was found dead in his New York City apartment in early July.
Initial suspicions centred around a possible overdose, after investigators searching the teenager’s home found a bag of cocaine, a straw with drug residue, two blue pills and seven rectangular tablets thought to be Xanax.
Woman arrested over drugs involved
Just over two weeks ago, it emerged that police had arrested a woman who allegedly sold De Niro Rodríguez the drugs that led to his death. She faces up to 20 years in prison.
“Someone sold him fentanyl laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,” De Niro Rodríguez’s mother, Drena de Niro, said on Instagram days after he died. “So for all these people still fucking around selling and buying shit, my son is gone forever.”
Death announced early last month
Drena de Niro announced Leandro’s death in a social-media post on 3 July, writing: “My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life.”
In a statement released to the media, Robert de Niro said he was “deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo”.
