Charlize Theron says filming ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ with Tom Hardy was “a nightmare” behind the scenes

Sometimes, even movie stars experience hell on set. This was the case for Charlize Theron in ‘Furiosa: from the Mad Max saga’, a film she starred in alongside Tom Hardy. However, the two stars clashed head-on and had tense arguments during filming.

Theron herself lamented the situation and described her relationship with Hardy as being like “two parents in the front seat of a car.” She added, “We were either fighting or ignoring each other. I don’t know which was worse, but they had to deal with it behind the scenes. It was awful! We shouldn’t have done it; we should have been better, I admit it.”

Why did Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy have a fight?

Director George Miller explained that Hardy and Theron follow two completely different acting philosophies. While Hardy has something within him that allows him to deliver “brilliant performances,” at the expense of his attitude, Theron is “incredibly disciplined,” which gives her “very precise” performances. The director believed that, had they learned to work together despite their differences, both their performances could have benefited. Unfortunately, Charlize Theron lost her patience.

Everything went completely wrong when they were called in at 8:00 a.m. to film a scene together. Theron arrived on time, knowing her co-star would be late. Minutes passed, and they considered filming other scenes without Hardy, but the actress refused. When he finally showed up two hours later, Theron told him to his face that his behavior had been “disrespectful.” She then demanded he be fined “for every minute he had kept the cast waiting.”

Needless to say, the two main actors have never worked together again in a film.
