Eminem’s new album: date, when it’s released and songs from ‘The Death of Slim Shady’
Eminem today released “Houdini”, the first single from his forthcoming record, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)’, his first studio album for four years.
Eminem’s 12th studio album, whose first single dropped today, is due out later this year. As things stand, the rapper has not confirmed an exact release date.
The Death of Slim Shady announced last month
In April, Eminem appeared to announce his intention to use his new album, which will be his first since 2020′s Music to be Murdered By, to kill off his long-time alter ego, Slim Shady. Confirming that the record will be called The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace), the 15-time Grammy winner released a teaser video filmed in the style of the popular true crime docuseries Unsolved Mysteries.
In the trailer, the host of the mock TV show, Detroit Murder Files, tells viewers: “Through his complex and oft-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blond anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies. The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Detroit Murder Files features an interview with Eminem’s fellow rapper 50 Cent, who describes Slim Shady as “a psychopath”.
Eminem, who grew up in a suburb of the Michigan city, also published an obituary for Slim Shady in a local Detroit newspaper earlier this month. “May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth,” reads the piece, which also refers to the rapper’s alter ego enduring “a sudden and horrific end”.
When is The Death of Slim Shady going to be released?
While The Death of Slim Shady’s precise release date has not yet been announced, April’s video teaser revealed that the record is scheduled to come out this summer. Eminem fans can pre-order the new album on his official website, and can pre-save/pre-add the record on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
The Death of Slim Shady: first single now out
“Houdini”, the first single on The Death of Slim Shady, came out today, Friday 31 May. Earlier this week, Eminem had unveiled the track’s name and release date, and teased its melody, in a trailer filmed with the magician David Blaine.
The rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, is seen in a video call with Blaine, asking the 51-year-old: “I was wondering, how far can we go with this magic? Like, can we do like a stunt or something?” Eminem then adds: “For my last trick, I’m going to make my career disappear.” In response, Blaine splutters: “Wait, what?!”

What other songs will be on The Death of Slim Shady?
Exact details about further songs on The Death of Slim Shady are yet to be revealed. We do know, though, that he has again teamed up with his regular collaborator and long-time mentor Dr Dre, who has a cameo in the video for “Houdini” and says he is involved in more than one track on the album.
In an appearance on the chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March, Dre was the first to reveal Eminem’s plans to bring out a new studio record, telling audience members: “He has an album coming out, I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually gonna hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.”
