From Metallica to Linkin Park: the great bands for which Ozzy Osbourne carved out a niche in the music industry
Ozzy Osbourne left a lasting legacy in music.

Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76. The Prince of Darkness took to the stage for the final time just weeks ago, in what was his final farewell to the adoring world.
The vocalist of Black Sabbath, Ozzy rewrote the script when it came to celebrity life: he was both a mainstream star and a unique rock god. Osbourne’s music, both with and without Black Sabbath, marked a period in history that will unlikely ever be repeated.
Rock group Metallica are generally considered to be the band that most famously took their inspiration from Black Sabbath, with Van Halen arguably a close second.
Which bands were influenced by Black Sabbath?
Faith No More, Judas Priest, Linkin Park and Smashing Pumpkins all trace their roots back to the music put out by Ozzy and co. Electric Wizard literally take their name from an amalgam of two Black Sabbath songs (Electric Funeral and The Wizard).
Metallica’s Lars Ulrich said after the recent show that “Black Sabbath are the reason you and I are here today. If it wasn’t for them, you can fill in the rest. I started seeing Black Sabbath in the late 70s, Sabotage Tour, AC/DC opening, our path with them is filled with love and appreciation.” He called Black Sabbath the “tribal elders” of the rock community, and added that “we owe them nothing but gratitude and appreciation.”
Robert Trujillo said that “our experience was all the same: we were in someone’s rooms listening to the album, and scaring the crap out of ourselves with that first track, Black Sabbath. That says something, because it kicks everything off.”
