Update:

If you’ve ever moved to a new city, you know it’s rarely simple. But for George Clooney and his family, New York City isn’t just another stop on the celebrity carousel – it’s home for at least the next six months. As the actor settles into his first Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck, Clooney offered a rare look into family life in Manhattan. So, how are they really coping?

Adjusting to life in the city that never sleeps isn’t always smooth, especially when you’re balancing Broadway rehearsals with raising 7-year-old twins. But for Clooney, his wife Amal, and their kids Ella and Alexander, the adjustment period might be surprisingly brief.

Why did the Clooneys choose New York now?

Clooney, at 63, has decided to try this new role in Broadway. His upcoming debut on March 12 marks a significant career shift as he takes the stage as iconic journalist Edward R. Murrow. Last year, Clooney told GQ magazine that the move represents a deliberate choice about family balance.

“That’s going to be six months of my life in New York,” Clooney explained. “But again, we’re talking about time allotment. I won’t do another thing. I’m giving myself time with my kids. I really enjoy driving them to school.”

Clooney confessed that Broadway’s evening schedule turned out to be unexpectedly family-friendly. “Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule,” he said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “You’re working at night, you get to see the kids during the day. So it’s OK.”

Not every parent would envy nightly stage performances, but Clooney humorously insisted that the hours are manageable – perhaps easier than juggling the hectic demands of a film set.

Amal used to the Big Apple

Amal, now 47, is no stranger to New York. As an NYU alumna, she’s familiar with the city’s charm - and its challenges. George joked that their twins, Ella and Alexander, weren’t exactly NYU grads yet. “They’re smart kids, but not that smart,” he quipped.

Despite the transition from their famously serene home on Lake Como, Italy, to the bustling sidewalks of Manhattan, Clooney reports the family is “having a really fun time.” Date nights, sightseeing, and exploring neighborhoods fill their days.

Life beyond the spotlight for the Clooneys

Famous for their picturesque Italian villa – known as much for celebrity sightings as for stunning lakeside views – the Clooneys are accustomed to glamour. But George and Amal seem committed to building genuine family moments away from the Hollywood spotlight.

Clooney described his New York experience with straightforward enthusiasm: “I mean, come on, how do you not love this? It’s New York City. They love being here.”
