The actor is currently starring in ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ on Broadway and is not afraid of making bold political statements.

Donald Trump would not be George Clooney’s first choice of President but he’s remaining optimistic about the United States’ future beyond this current administration.
Clooney is currently starring in a Broadway show entitled ‘Good night and Good Luck’. In it Clooney portrays the historical figure Edward R. Murrow, the veteran journalist who was a vocal critic of Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s investigations in the 1950s.
The play is an examination of the role that the media plays in the world of politics and this latest iteration was described by Clooney as a response to the actions of President Donald Trump.
Speaking to Patti Lupone on Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ series the topic of Trump was raised. Clooney made no secret of his dislike of the current White House incumbent but insisted that he has not lost faith in the nation’s direction.
“It is funny because he is just a New York beast and we’ve all known him for 30 years when he was just a guy chasing women,” Clooney said. “It’s fine. We’re going to get through it.”
“I feel like we’ll all be fine, we’re going to get through it,” he continued. “We do eventually find our better angels, we have every other time and I think we will again. I’m an optimist about all of that.”
Asked for some potential next steps for the Democratic Party and other opponents of Trump’s, Clooney said that he expects the Dems to win back the House of Representatives in the midterms. Clooney has publicly supported the Democrats in the past and wants to see a new generation come to the fore within the party.
“We have to find some people to represent us better who have a sense of humor. Who have a sense of purpose,” he said, adding that one person he believes in Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “I think he’s going to a real force in the next election.”
