GTA 6 is not delayed: Rockstar insists on the release date and talks about a version for Switch 2
Assurances have come that GTA VI is not delayed and is still planned for 2025.

In the absence of official announcements, few things speak louder than an investor call. Rockstar Games—and more specifically, its parent company Take-Two Interactive—has reassured investors that Grand Theft Auto 6 remains on schedule and will launch as planned in Fall 2025.
“Looking ahead, this year is shaping up to be one of the strongest in our history,” Take-Two stated. “We just released Sid Meier’s Civilization 7, and in March, we’re set to launch PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25. Mafia: The Old Country will follow this summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Borderlands 4 before the year ends."
GTA 6’s revenue potential: sky-high expectations
The sheer financial impact of a new GTA game is best understood by looking at the staggering sales figures of its predecessors. Take-Two updated investors on the latest numbers:
- Grand Theft Auto V has sold 210 million copies
- Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million copies
Both titles rank among the best-selling games of all time, and Take-Two’s revenue projections indicate similarly sky-high expectations for GTA 6. Analysts anticipate its release between September and December 2025, with the potential to break industry records.
“I know anticipation for the game is through the roof—not just externally, but internally as well,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. “Rockstar is aiming for perfection. I’m not going to predict success before it happens—arrogance is the enemy of achievement. That’s why we closely monitor the competition and hold ourselves to the highest standards. But I will say this: Our entire organization is incredibly excited.”
Could GTA 6 come to Nintendo Switch 2?
Zelnick also addressed the possibility of GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2, which is set for an official unveiling soon. While he didn’t confirm a release, his comments left the door wide open:
“We have a long-standing relationship with Nintendo and have always supported their consoles when it made sense. There was a time when Nintendo platforms skewed toward younger audiences, and that was reflected in our releases.
“But the Switch and its successor are designed for all players. If you’ve noticed, Civilization 7 launched on Switch on day one. While I don’t have any specific announcements right now, you can expect our full support for Switch.”
With a historic lineup of releases, record-breaking potential, and a possible Switch 2 expansion, 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster year for Take-Two and Rockstar.
