HBO reveals new Dumbledore and Snape in highly anticipated Harry Potter series
The new eagerly awaited Harry Potter TV series is expected to hit screens some time in 2026.

The new Harry Potter TV series, set to air on HBO and stream on Max in 2026 aims to be a faithful, decade-long adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series, with each season focusing on one book.

The series promises to delve deeper into the books than the films, including subplots and characters that were omitted due to time constraints and will feature an entirely new cast to portray beloved characters.
Production will begin in the summer of 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, the same location where the original films were made with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman (producer of the original films) are executive producers.

The longer format will allow for the inclusion of more details, magical elements, and potentially characters like Peeves the Poltergeist and exploration of locations like the Hogwarts staff room. The series intends to stay true to the canonical ages of characters.
Dumbledore and Snape characters
It has been confirmed that Hogwarts’ headmaster Albus Dumbledore will be portrayed by six-time Emmy award winner John Lithgow (The Crown, Conclave) with Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror) as Severus Snape.
Other confirmed characters are Janet McTeer (The Menu, Kaos) as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) as Rubeus Hagrid.
Warner Bros. claim that all four actors will serve as series regulars, alongside guest appearances by Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
