OSCARS

How does Ciara’s Oscars party dress compare to Old Hollywood style?

Ciara left nothing to the imagination at the Vanity Fair Oscars party Sunday night. The singer wore a sheer, glittering garment that had a mesh-like appearance — and was just as revealing.

The dress was halter style with a plunging neckline, crystal décor, and the strings of her underwear riding up the lower back.

The Dundar dress, which is featured in the brand’s fall/winter 2023 collection, was paired with opera gloves, dangling earrings, and Santoni platform sandals.

How did Ciara’s look go over?

The online community is arguing fervently whether Ciara’s daring outfit captures the glamor of the idea of Hollywood, or if the entertainer is just baring it all to get attention.

Ciara is not the only one in Hollywood to adopt the barely-there dress. Hunter Schafer wore a mermaid dress with nothing but a feather strapped across her bare upper body.

Hollywood celebrities didn’t always dress in such risqué fashion. A look back at celebrities of Hollywood past, such as Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Ingrid Bergman, show just how much things have changed over the years.

Timeless looks of the past

Grace Kelly was known as one of the most elegant women in cinematic history.

“She had talent and attractiveness,” Fred Coe said about her. “The thing that made her stand out was something we call ‘style’. She wasn’t just another beautiful girl, she was the essence of freshness—the kind of girl every man dreams of marrying. We all loved her. You can’t work with Grace Kelly without falling a little in love with her.”

Katharine Hepburn was known for being a woman of high femininity, intelligence, elegance, and ease.

“I don’t know that I was ever any good as an actress,” Hepburn once said. “You do the best you can. I’ve played wonderful parts, and you’re only as good as the part.”

Ingrid Bergman was a woman known for having a classic sense of style.

“She had an extraordinary quality of purity and nobility, and a definite star personality that is very rare,” Davis Selznick once said about the actress.
