Born in Concord (California) in 1956, Hanks began his career in the entertainment world in the early 1980s with minor roles. His first big success came in 1984 with Ron Howard’s movie ‘Splash’. After several years of making different comedies, he premiered ‘Big’ in 1988, another one of his hits that brought him worldwide fame.

The pinnacle of his career: ‘Philadelphia’ and ‘Forrest Gump’

Hanks’ great moment would come in 1993 with ‘Philadelphia’, the first film that broke the AIDS taboo. A year later, another memorable film would arrive, ‘Forrest Gump’, directed by Robert Zemeckis. Since then and until now, Hanks has played a multitude of roles. Among them: ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998), ‘The Green Mile’ (1999), ‘Cast Away’ (2000), ‘Road to Perdition’ and ‘Catch Me If You Can’ (2002), ‘The Terminal’ (2004), ‘Captain Phillips’ and ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ (2013), ‘The Post’ (2017) or ‘News of the World’ (2020), among others.

He has also played Robert Langdon in the trilogy of films based on Dan Brown’s books and has voiced Woody in the ‘Toy Story’ movies. In addition, Hanks has an extensive career in the world of theater and has participated in various television series.

Regarding his nominations at the Oscars, Hanks has the privilege of being the last actor to have won two consecutive Best Actor awards: ‘Philadelphia’ and ‘Forrest Gump’. Since then, he has not experienced success at the Oscars again, although he has been nominated three more times for Best Actor: ‘Big’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and ‘Cast Away’. He has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’.
