Oscars 2025: what is the order of awards and how many categories are there in the Academy Awards?

The Academy Awards save the Best (Picture) for last. Here is the order of the awards for the 97th annual Oscars event.

After a bit of a delay due to the tragic wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy Awards have finally arrived. The red carpet’s rolled out and the stars are dressed to the nines as they await to hear the winners of the 97th annual Oscars.

This year, the film “Emilia Pérez” has the most nominations with a whopping 13 total. “The Brutalist” and “Wicked” follow closely with 10 nominations each.

The 2025 Oscars categories and order of awards

This year’s event is hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien. It will be his first time hosting an Oscars. On February 19, the Academy announced that Nick Offerman will also join O’Brien as an announcer for the ceremony.

Of the many presenters for the awards are last year’s Oscar winners in the four acting categories - Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. There are 23 total categories that make up the awards gala, which begins at 7 p.m. ET at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Here is the list of awards and the order in which they will be presented.

As is typical, the Academy Awards will save the most prestigious awards for last, with Best Actor, Director, and Actress in the final four, followed by the grand finale of Best Picture. This year’s nominees for Best Picture are “Anora”, “The Brutalist”, “A Complete Unknown”, “Conclave”, “Dune: Part Two”, “Emilia Pérez”, “I’m Still Here”, “Nickel Boys”, “The Substance”, and “Wicked”.
