John Williams: The living person with the most Oscar nominations in history
At 93 years of age, John Williams leads the list. He has composed the scores for ‘Star Wars’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘E.T.’, and ‘Jurassic Park’, among others, and has picked up five Oscars and 54 nominations. ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ was his last nomination in 2024.
He has won the award five times since 1972, for the films ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘E.T.’, and ‘Schindler’s List’. The latter, in 1994, was the last time he won the trophy.

Dimitri Tiomkin
The Ukrainian has won the Oscar four times for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. In the first category, he was the winner for the films ‘High Noon’, ‘The High and the Mighty’, and ‘The Guns of Navarone’. He also won the Oscar for Best Original Song for ‘High Noon’.
Miklós Rózsa
Between 1941 and 1962, Miklós Rózsa won three Oscars for ‘Spellbound’, ‘A Double Life’, and ‘Ben-Hur’. He was also nominated 17 times.
Alfred Newman
American Alfred Newman has nine awards from 1939 to 1970. He won awards for both Best Original Score and Best Musical Orchestration for films such as ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’ and ‘Camelot’. Additionally, he was nominated for these awards 43 times.
Max Steiner
Max Steiner has two awards. He was awarded for his work on ‘Since You Went Away’ and ‘Now, Voyager’. He was nominated 19 times between 1939 and 1956.
Alexandre Desplat
The French composer has won two Oscars for the soundtracks of ‘The Shape of Water’ and ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’. He has been nominated 11 times, the last of which was in 2020 for ‘Little Women’.
James Horner
The Californian composer was a double winner at the Oscars for ‘Titanic’, winning both Best Original Score and Best Original Song in 1997 for ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the same film. He has also been nominated on 10 other occasions.
Ennio Morricone
The Italian has received the Oscar twice: in 2006, he received an honorary Oscar, and in 2016, he won Best Original Score for ‘The Hateful Eight’. Additionally, he has been nominated seven times.
