Swifties are showing their true colors as they raise funds in memory of Jacob Lewis.
Taylor Swift fans have raised more than $123, 000 so far following the tragic accident that took place after Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ stop in Houston, Texas. Swifties have also been passing around friendship bracelets in tribute to the boy who sadly passed away after the event.
The ‘Shake it Off’ singer’s loyal fans have proven themselves faithful not just to the singing superstar, but to each other as well.
What happened to Jacob Lewis?
Jacob Lewis, who was only 20 years old, suffered an untimely death when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver after Swift’s show on Friday night.
Following the sad news of the young man’s death over the weekend, by Monday, fans had taken to social media to spread the word. They’ve sent sympathy and encouragement to Lewis’ family, and raised money through a GoFundMe account in tribute to Lewis for his family to spend on funeral costs.
Overwhelming support
Several of the donations adding up to over $123, 000 were in increments of $13 and $113, which is a salute to Swift’s favorite number.
In addition to the GoFundMe for Lewis’ family, Swift fans have also been sporting a friendship bracelet in memory of the lost fan.
Jacob’s sister thanks Swift fans
Abigail Bancroft, sister of Jacob who was at the concert with her brother before his sudden death, shared that his’ favorite Swift song was ‘Shake if Off’. With that information, the ‘Shake it Off’ Jacob Lewis friendship bracelet project was born.
Bancroft responded to the public’s donations following her tragic loss.
“I cannot express the overwhelming gratitude from every Swiftie out there,” Lewis’ sister wrote.
“Thank you thank you thank you. I will get to your messages eventually if I haven’t already, your words have inspired me through my day so much.”
