Kevin Costner has responded to speculation he is dating folk singer-songwriter Jewel, who he has been romantically linked to since his divorce from second wife Christine Baumgartner was finalised in February.

Costner denies romantic links to “special” Jewel

When asked about the pair’s relationship on ‘The Howard Stern Show,’ the ‘Yellowstone’ actor denied they were anything more than friends, but did confess the 50-year-old was “special” to him and “beautiful enough to go out with”.

“No, Jewel and I are friends. We’ve never gone out ever. She’s special, and I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that’s what we have. She’s special to me. She’s beautiful enough to go out with.”

Costner explained the rumors began when they visited Necker Island, owned by Virgin Group chairman Sir Richard Branson, at the same time. Stories emerged they had travelled together on a private plane, which the 69-year-old confirmed before revealing there had been nine other people on board, including British actress Emma Watson.

“I was on with nine people and, and I don’t want the press to ruin this for us, because … I’ve had conversations with her, text wise, and she’s so smart, and she’s been through a lot herself, and so we have a friendship. We don’t have a romance, and we’ve not dated.”

“She’s beautiful and smart enough for all those things. It just has never happened for us. She’s everything you might think, but it just hasn’t happened.”

Jewel shot to fame in 1995 with ‘Pieces of You,’ one of the best-selling debut albums of all time, but has kept a relatively low public profile since then, despite her commercial success. The singer has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and been nominated for four Grammy Awards.

The Utah native dated actor Sean Penn briefly in the mid-1990s and was married to former professional rodeo cowboy Ty Murray, with whom she has a 12-year-old son, for six years until 2014.

The Hollywood star shares Annie and Lily, as well as son Joe, 36, with first wife Cindy Silva, while he had Cayden, Hayes and Grace with second wife Baumgartner. He also has one son, 26-year-old Liam, with ex-partner Bridget Rooney.
