Jane Fonda says Jennifer Lopez ‘never apologized’ for cutting her eyebrow in ‘Monster-in-Law’

Jennifer Lopez previously said she apologized for the accidental on-set injury to co-star Jane Fonda

Update:
Jane Fonda revela que Jennifer Lopez no se ha disculpado por el incidente en el set de ‘Monster-in-Law’ en el que le abrió la ceja.

Jane Fonda talked about her 2005 romcom role alongside Jennifer Lopez while on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ this week. She appeared on the show alongside guest Lily Tomlin.

Fonda, who played ‘Viola Fields’ in the hit movie ‘Monster-in-Law’, recalled the first thing that came to mind when reliving the film, which happened to be the slap scene between her character and Lopez’s Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Cantilini.

Cut by a diamond ring

“The thing that comes to mind right away is we have a slapping scene,” she says. “I slap her, she slaps me. Well, Jennifer -- as per Jennifer -- she had this enormous diamond ring. And so when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye, my eyebrow.”

The crowd laughed as Fonda continued, “And she’s never apologized.”

Afterward, Barrymore quickly changed the subject and moved on to ask Tomlin about her classic film roles. However, there seems to be no bad blood between Fonda and Lopez.

Fonda was in attendance when Lopez received the 2,500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2013. The two snapped pictures together alongside her manager Benny Medina and children.

In 2019, Lopez described working with Fonda as a “highlight of her career” and the most ‘fun” scenes she’s ever done.

JLo’s explanation

Three years ago, Lopez also posted a video where she reacted to the iconic movie ‘Monster-in-Law.’ In the video, she explains how the scene went down.

“I punched her in the eye by mistake,” she says.

“I was so afraid to hit Jane Fonda in the face or hurt her in any way,” but she said Fonda told her, “Just hit me. Don’t worry about it. It’s going to be fine!”

“I just remember afterward, Jane had a blood blister right at the top of her eye,” Lopez said. “My nail like went up into her eye. . . . I was like, ‘Oh my God! I’m so sorry!’ and she was like, ‘It’s fine, it’s fine,’”

Lopez also said Fonda “didn’t care” about the blood blister. She continued: “She is such a gangster b----.”
