Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson discuss their sex scenes at Cannes: “We were naked, attacking each other like tigers”
The two Hollywood A-listers revealed the secret behind their explicit scenes in new film ‘Die, My Love’.

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson are the two stars of the new film ‘Die, My Love’ which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week.
The movie is directed by Lynne Ramsay, who is known for her use of images and sound design to create deep, emotion-laden worlds within the films. Speaking at the premiere in Cannes, Lawrence revealed that Ramsay had also introduced an interesting technique to ease the awkwardness before filming the movie’s explicit scenes.
“She had us do dance lessons before we started shooting,” Jennifer told Brut last week, “which was so humiliating and embarrassing.”
She added that those sessions gave her and Pattinson an “instant trust” and “helped a lot” in preparation. Lawrence joked: “Then on our first day of shooting... we were naked, attacking each other like tigers.”
It wasn’t just Lawrence who spoke about the sex scenes in a conversation ahead of the premiere. Pattinson, too, found the unusual approach helped him to feel more comfortable.
“You think it can’t get more embarrassing and they’re like, ‘Now, do it naked,’” he explained. “It was kind of a good idea actually because if we didn’t like each other, then it becomes increasingly more awkward.”
Aside from those bond-building sessions, the actor also felt that he benefited from the clear instructions dished out during filming. Far from being overbearing, he explained that those comments can help to ease the process around shooting those intimate scenes.
“And it’s not just to feel secure sometimes,” Robert said. “I think directors sometimes are a little bit scared to say, like, ‘Your body looks weird in this angle.’ And if you have someone else whose specific job is to say, ‘Just move a little bit in this direction,’ you’re gonna like it more.”
