The 2024 Oscar ceremony is a wrap. A night with few major award surprises did still give us some moments that quickly went viral, including Ryan Gosling’s version of his song “I’m just Ken” from Barbie, and also Jimmy Kimmel’s live retort to former President Donald Trump, who had labeled him the “worst host.”

Before the Best Picture category was announced, Kimmel took a moment to read a message out from his phone, explaining it had just been sent. It turns out it was from former president Trump on his social network Truth Social.

Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be,” Kimmel read aloud from his phone.

“Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous… blah, blah, blah. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Kimmel thanked Trump for watching, but asked him if it wasn’t “past his jail time” to whoops and cheers from the audience at the Oscars.

Donald Trump’s legal troubles

In March of last year, the Republican became the first president in U.S. history to be charged with a criminal offense. More than four months later, on August 24th, the former president was indicted and arrested for the fourth time.

Trump’s first arrest came from the Stormy Daniels case, facing 34 charges of ‘Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree.’ He was arrested a second time in connection with classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence. He also faced arrest twice for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
