Musician John Mayer has already embarked on his solo acoustic tour, which kicked off earlier this week at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Illinois. Mayer shocked fans by performing and adding a song he hasn’t performed since 2014.

Mayer performed ‘Half of My Heart,’ which was a duet with his ex-girlfriend, popstar Taylor Swift, released in 2009. The two broke up around February 2010 and the song hasn’t been played since Mayer’s ‘The Born and Raised World Tour’ which took place from 2013-2014.

Although the song is a duet, Mayor opted out of including Swift’s part and instead allowed the audience to sing her lines. The surprise track left longtime fans of the artist raving over the throwback. Many took to Twitter to celebrate the comeback of ‘Half of My Heart.’

When did Taylor Swift and John Mayer date?

Swift and Mayer dated from 2009 to 2010 after collaborating on ‘Half of My Heart.’ At the time, Swift was 19 years old and Mayer was 32 years old.

The duo performed their song together throughout their relationship, most notably at the Z100′s Jingle Ball in New York City. Months after their breakup, Swift released her album ‘Speak Now’ which contained the track ‘Dear John,’ which many fans speculated was about their romance.

Their subsequent feud

Although Swift never confirmed the track was about her ex, Mayer slammed the song as “cheap songwriting” and a “really lousy thing to do” in a RollingStones interview two years later. Mayer was also rumored to release a diss track of his own, titled ‘Paper Dolls’ in 2013.

Their alleged feud continued, as in December 2016 Mayer tweeted “Tuesday, December 13, may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually.” December 13, happens to be Taylor Swift’s birthday.

“NOPE. No. Nuh-uh,” the singer wrote in a follow-up Tweet. “People I am 39. I am deleting those tweets. Come right at me for doing so. Absolutely no shade.”

However, their feud seemed to sizzle out in 2018 when Mayer called Swift’s album ‘Reputation’ a “fine piece of work” in an IHeartRadio Q&A.
