Lily-Rose Depp isn’t staying quiet when it comes to her pride towards her dad.

While at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival earlier this week for her latest project ‘The Idol,’ Lily-Rose took the chance to address the fact that her father Johnny Depp was also in attendance at this year’s festival for his own project ‘Jeanne du Barry.’

This marks Johnny’s first acting role since his highly-publicized defamation trial against ex-Amber Heard.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lily-Rose said she was excited to see her father in something he’s proud of.

“I’m super happy for him. I’m super excited,” Lily-Rose said. “And it’s so awesome that we get to do projects that we’re super proud of.”

Lily-Roses latest project faces backlash

The announcement of the upcoming Max series ‘The Idol’ has faced non-stop backlash from the public due to its sexual scenes being too aggressive.

After having a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the show currently sits at a 27% critics score on rotten tomatoes.

One critic from Variety wrote, “The script seems calculated to fool audiences into thinking they’re observing how Hollywood operates when so much of it amounts to tawdry clichés.”

Another from The Daily Beast wrote, “The show’s sleaze (intentional and not) would be one thing, but it’s the hideous, self-excusing presentation of rape culture that rankles.

Despite the backlash, the cast and crew are standing strong behind their creation, with Depp telling ET, “It felt like such a beautiful celebration.”

“It was the first time that I had watched it with an audience,” Depp said. “But it was incredible. It felt like such a beautiful celebration and a culmination of everything that we’ve been through together, and just kind of a beautiful process that was in the show, and creating this little family together, and it just felt really, really nice.”

What is ‘The Idol’ about?

The show was created by Sam Levinson, the man behind the hit show ‘Euphoria’ and co-stars singer The Weeknd alongside Depp.

According to the official synopsis the drama series centers on pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose) after a nervous breakdown derailed her last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros (The Weeknd), a nightclub impresario with a sordid past.
