Looking for plans for Valentine’s Day? The John Hughes classic ‘Pretty in Pink’ is returning to theaters
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the John Hughes’ 80s teen romantic comedy is returning to theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

John Hughes was a master at portraying teenage life, a skill which he displayed in movies like ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’, ‘The Breakfast Club’, and ‘Sixteen Candles’. The latter two both starred Molly Ringwald, for whom he specifically wrote ‘Pretty in Pink’, the third and final film they would make together.
That film, which hit number one at the box office when it was released in 1986, has weathered the years well, gaining new fans since first gracing the silver screen. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Paramount Pictures and Fathom Entertainment are once again bringing the romantic comedy back to theaters so that people can see it on the big screen.
‘Pretty in Pink’ returning to theaters for Valentine’s Day
‘Pretty in Pink’ will be available to view in movie theaters nationwide over Valentine’s Day weekend with showings from 13 to 16 February. Variety reports that a bonus featurette with the film’s director Howard Deutch will also be shown during the special 40th anniversary release.
Fans can purchase their tickets at the Fathom Entertainment website and at theater box offices participating with Fathom Events.
‘Pretty in Pink’ synopsis
The romantic comedy is a Cinderella story about Andie Walsh, played by Ringwald, who is a high school girl from the wrong side of the tracks, so to speak. She gets asked to the prom by the school’s wealthy heartthrob, Blane, played by Andrew McCarthy.
However, their developing romance has to confront the realities of peer pressure and the cliques they are a part of. It all makes for a bittersweet story set to a stellar 80’s New Wave soundtrack.
