Being a child actor has its issues, Brenda Song has revealed. Married to the face of the ‘Home Alone’ franchise, everyone’s favourite Christmas film, the former Disney sensation has opened up on the real-world problems that Macaulay Culkin had due to his young-age stardom after playing Kevin McCallister shot him to household name status across the world.
Speaking on the Jennifer Hudson Show, Song, who shot to fame for her role in ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’, admitted that Culkin most certainly did not have a normal childhood. “He lived and grew up in hotels,” Song explained. “He had just never really done laundry. And I was shooketh. I’ve been doing laundry since I was a baby, I feel like.”
Culkin ruined ‘Home Alone’ for Song with secret revelations
On adapting to life as a normal adult, Song even had to teach Culkin how to drive, something that terrified her. “I took him out to drive in our neighbourhood. I was terrified,” she said. “I’m like, ‘This 44-year-old man driving for the first time?’ I was like, ‘Nope! I got to hire someone to do that.’”
When they started dating, Song wanted to keep up her tradition of watching ‘Home Alone’ every Christmas: “He hadn’t seen the movie in like a decade, and I forced him. He didn’t want to watch it. And I was like, ‘We have to!’ So, we started watching it and then he started telling me all the behind-the-scenes stories and I was like, ‘Stop! You’re ruining it for me! You’re ruining it!’”
After taking a break from acting, Culkin went on to pursue various creative projects, including forming the comedy rock band The Pizza Underground as the lead vocalist. He shares two children with Song, his wife-to-be, Dakota and Carson.
