Neymar becomes father for second time: what does daughter’s name mean?
Soccer star Neymar and his girlfriend, the model Bruna Biancardi, have announced the birth of their first child - a daughter named Mavie.
The girlfriend of Al-Hilal soccer star Neymar, the model Bruna Biancardi, has given birth to the couple’s first child.
In an Instagram post on Saturday, Biancardi wrote: “Our Mavie has arrived to complete our lives. Welcome, daughter! We love you so much already… thank you for choosing us.”
Neymar, who also has a 12-year-old son, Davi Luca, responded to Biancardi’s social-media post with a ‘heart’ emoji, and has taken to Instagram Stories to publish a photo of himself with his new daughter.
What does the name ‘Mavie’ mean?
‘Mavie’ is a name that readers in the US are unlikely to be very familiar with. According to the Social Security Administration, at no point since 1900 has it been among the 1,000 most common female names in the country.
It derives from the French phrase ‘ma vie’, which translates as ‘my life’.
Before Neymar moved to Saudi Arabia in August, he and Biancardi had plenty of opportunity to familiarise themselves with the French language, as the Brazil international spent six years with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Birth comes amid infidelity scandals
The birth of the couple’s daughter comes on the back of a series of scandals involving apparent infidelities on Neymar’s part.
In June, the 31-year-old even apologised publicly to Biancardi after a reported rendez-vous with the Brazilian blogger Fernanda Campos. “I made a mistake. I wronged you,” he wrote on Instagram.
And last month, Biancardi was forced to come out in response to the emergence of video footage seemingly showing Neymar out partying with two unidentified women.
“I’m aware of what happened and once again I am disappointed,” the 29-year-old said in an Instagram Story.
