Not coming soon: John Malkovich stars in a movie no one will see until 2115
Robert Rodriguez’s short film starring Malkovich won’t premiere for a century, blending Hollywood storytelling with luxury cognac marketing.

Almost none of us will be alive when this movie finally hits theaters. John Malkovich headlines “100 Years,” a short film directed by Robert Rodriguez that won’t be released until 2115. The project is actually part of a campaign by French cognac maker Rémy Martin, which hired Rodríguez in 2015 to shoot the film along with a series of commercials.
The cast is truly international, featuring Chinese actress Shuya Chang, Filipino actor Gedeon Manlulu and Chilean stunt performer Marko Zaror.
Why the 100-year wait?
The century-long delay has a very specific reason. The film is designed to mirror the production process of Rémy Martin’s Louis XIII cognac, which takes decades to craft. The teasers hint at different versions of the future, imagining how cities and lifestyles might look 100 years from now. While we can’t predict what the world will be like, it would be ironic if the cognac didn’t exist by the time the movie premieres.
A movie no one alive will see
“I was intrigued by the idea of working on a movie that no one will ever see,” Rodriguez said. “At least, not in my lifetime.”

1000 people including Rodriguez & Malkovich have received invitations which are going to be handed down to their descendants for the premiere pic.twitter.com/E1LzjeCxE9
There is only one copy of the film, stored in a high-security vault, set to be opened on Nov. 18, 2115. A thousand invitations have been sent out for the premiere, but by then, everyone who received them will have passed away. The tickets will instead go to their descendants.
