Kate Middleton releases new family photo with the late Queen Elizabeth
The princess reveals a never-before-seen photo of the royal family taken before the queen died in late 2022.
The royal family has released a new photo never before seen by the public — a family photo with Queen Elizabeth and her great-grandchildren — captured by photographer Kate Middleton.
The photo was released on April 21 to make a tribute to the late queen on what would have been her 97th birthday.
Friday marks the first birthday the royal family will spend without the monarch.
The family photo
The Prince and Princess of Wales posted the photograph, which was taken in the summer of 2022, to their Instagram account on Friday.
The photo shows the three Wales children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, standing with their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
“Today would have been Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 97th birthday,” the Waleses wrote in the caption. “This photograph — showing her with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — was taken at Balmoral last summer.”
The royal couple then posted a camera emoticon and wrote, “The Princess,” revealing that it was Kate Middleton herself who took the picture.
Family tree
Also in the photo of Queen Elizabeth sitting on the green couch at the Balmoral Castle is her eldest great-granddaughter, Savannah Phillips, Zara Tindall’s daughter, Mia, and her baby brother, Lucas.
Lady Louise Windsor, James, Earl of Wessex, Lena Tindall, and Isla Phillips joined Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with the monarch.
Queen Elizabeth made history as the longest-reigning monarch. She ascended to the throne at age 25, and passed away at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022, at her beloved Balmoral Castle.
