Meghan Markle won’t be attending King Charles’ Coronation next month, with the news sparking plenty of reaction on social media.

Prince Harry will attend the event, without Markle at his side, as the 41-year-old will remain in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” a palace spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Fans react to Markle news on social media

There has been plenty of reaction to the news on social media, with several fans saying the Sussexes’ have made the right decision given the tension between them and the royal family.

“Apparently #PrinceHarry and #MeghanMarkle have replied to the invitation to the vanity coronation of #KingCharlesIII,” wrote on user.

“Personally I think they’ve collectively as a couple and parents made the right decision for Harry to go, and Meghan to stay home with the kids.”

Another user wrote: “Good for my girl Meghan Markle. I am so proud of her.”

Omid Scobie tweeted that Archie’s birthday, which falls on the same day as the Coronation, played a role in the couple’s decision, with one fan throwing their support behind the explanation.

“This is a good decision on both Prince Harry and Meghan’s path because Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are important too,” the user wrote. “May 6th is Prince Archie’s Birthday and We are Celebrating.”

Another user suggested Markle was making the right decision in avoiding the Coronation altogether.

“QUEEN!!!!!!!!! “Good luck to you and your Coronation. I’m Gooood!!!!” Deuces”, the user wrote, along with a picture of Markle sipping wine.

“I hope #meghanMarkle and the children have an amazing time on the week of the vanity coronation I hope they go out to the a park or the beach … or that they have friends over and have a wonderful time, whilst they wait for dad #PrinceHarry to return That’s all,” wrote another user.

Some are happy Markle won’t be in attendance

While many users are backing Markle’s decision to stay in California for the Coronation, some weren’t as complimentary.

“She’s so afraid of getting booed,” wrote one user, with another adding: “#meghanmarkle’s ego couldn’t handle the fact that she would have absolutely been booed and relegated to average seating with the plebes. No special treatment, no balcony, no role? No go.

Lastly, one user wrote, “Happy, smiling people throng The Long Walk after news spreads that #MeghanMarkle isn’t returning for the UK”, with a GIF of huge crowds gathered.
