Selena Gomez has strengthened her grip on the title of most followed woman on Instagram. On March 17, 2023, Gomez reached over 400 million followers.

The singer and actress typically uses her account for the promotion of her makeup brand ‘Rare Beauty’ among other things. However, more recently she has told fans she’s taking periodic breaks from social media as a whole, claiming she’s “too old” for it.

Who has the most followers on Instagram?

Closely behind Cristiano Ronaldo, 563 million, and Lionel Messi, 442 million, Selena Gomez comes in third as the most followed person on Instagram. Fans showed their support, commenting on her latest post with enthusiasm at the star’s visibility.

After she openly shared her struggles with Lupus and mental health, the star’s most recent movie ‘Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me’ is a documentary about her struggles with not feeling good enough, despite being one of the world’s most famous former Disney actress and singer.

Online Vulnerability

Her fans admire her for her vulnerability and openness, which is highlighted in her recent post showing the make-up less Gomez with the caption ‘Violet Chemistry’, in reference to the Miley Cyrus track from the new album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’.

This great success is just shortly after the ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ star returned to Instagram in January, after over four years, due to her unhealthy relationship with the platform. She has given over the posting rights to a member of her team to stave off feelings of unworthiness.

“At one point Instagram became my whole world, and it was really dangerous. In my early 20s, I felt like I wasn’t pretty enough,” Gomez explains.

“There was a whole period in my life when I thought I needed makeup and never wanted to be seen without it,” she previously said in an interview with InStyle.
