In June of 2022, Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their separation after 12 years together. Their breakup occurred amid various rumors of infidelity by the former FC Barcelona player.

What did Shakira say after Piqué split?

After the separation, and as Piqué started a new relationship with a woman named Clara Chía, Shakira broke her silence in an interview with Elle magazine, as well as making plenty references in songs like ‘Te Felicito’, session 53 with Bizarrap and also with ‘TQG’ in collaboration with Karol G.

After many months, the Colombian singer finally gave her first televised interview, shared by N+ from Noticieros Televisa and the streaming platform ViX. In this interview, she addressed various topics, from her breakup, her collaboration with Bizarrap, her perspective on love, to her role as a philanthropist and her musical career, admitting that she suffers from imposter syndrome.

Shakira and her impostor syndrome

According to Aida Baida Gil, author of the book “How to overcome impostor syndrome”, those who suffer from it “have the feeling of never being up to par; of not being good enough, competent enough, or capable enough; of being impostors, a fraud.”

Regarding this, Shakira shared that she has suffered from the condition, which makes her not believe herself to be as capable, skilled, creative, intelligent, or talented. However, she admitted that it keeps her pushing on.

“That little pathology keeps me motivated, wanting to discover who I am and what I can give,” she said. “It’s true that I’ve always been restless and that I constantly have a debt to myself that I want to check if I really have that talent or if I still have it,” she added.

During that interview, Shakira also emphasized that it gave her more desire than ever.

“Life has decided to place me in positions, sometimes uncomfortable ones, to give me an understanding of how others live [...] I have experienced wealth, poverty. I have experienced discrimination, prejudice [...],” she added. “I’m always changing my point of view [...] We’re always avoiding pain, but it turns out that pain is part of life.

“I didn’t know I could become strong. You have to have faith, faith in yourself.”
