Shannen Doherty files for divorce from Kurt Iswarienko after 11 years of marriage
The 52-year-old actress officially filed for divorce on Friday.
Actress Shannen Doherty officially filed for divorce from Kurt Iswarienko on Friday after 11 years of marriage.
The couple have reportedly been separated since January and according to Doherty’s rep, Leslie Sloane, divorce was the last option. News of the divorce was first reported by TMZ after obtaining the divorce filing.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted,” Sloane told People. “Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”
Doherty and Iswarienko tied the knot in October 2011. The 52-year-old actress has previously been married to actor and singer Ashley Hamilton and poker player Rick Salomon.
Doherty shares message to Instagram
After the news broke, Doherty took to her Instagram to post a somewhat cryptic message about treating others with love and kindness.
The post contained white text over a black background which read, “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and total respect.”
She captioned the post with, “I guess you will be in my life forever then.”
Doherty’s acting career
Doherty began her career as a child actor in guest roles in shows like ‘Voyagers!’ and ‘Father Murphy’ before landing the part of Jenny Wilder on ‘Little House on the Prairie.’
Her first major role in a motion picture came as Heather Duke in the 1988 cult classic ‘Heathers’ where she starred alongside Winona Ryder. However, Doherty’s breakout role was as Brenda Walsh in ‘Beverly Hills, 90210.’
Doherty’s health issues
Throughout her years in the spotlight, Doherty has remained candid about her many health issues.
In 1999, Doherty revealed that she had been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
She was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but it receded in 2017. Unfortunately, Doherty announced in 2020 that the cancer had returned and she is now stage four.
