Pink Parrot Media, an international sales and distribution company based in Montreal and Madrid, will showcase ‘Butterfly Tale’ at the Cannes Film Festival. The 3D animated family feature will feature an original song by Shawn Mendes, a Juno-winning and Grammy-nominated Canadian pop singer-songwriter.

The original song is titled ‘Something Big’ and was released almost 10 years ago in 2014. The song did not achieve worldwide commercial success at the time, but did well on Canadian music charts.

The song was written on the tour bus during the summer and is meant to be a positive song about good things happening to people. The lyrics describe a feeling of excitement and anticipation for achieving a big goal or accomplishment and encourage listeners to believe that something big is happening and to embrace the feeling of success.

New original songs

The film’s soundtrack, produced by Blu Dog, will feature ‘Something Big’ performed by Shawn Mendes. Alongside new original songs ‘Anywhere with You’ performed by Johnny Orlando and “Champions” performed by La Zarra, ‘Silence be Still’ by Coeur de Pirate, ‘Fly Away’ by Joshua Alexander, and ‘Now or Never’ performed by Jennifer Lee Dupuy.

What is ‘Butterfly Tail’ about?

The upcoming animated film is based on the great Monarch butterfly migration. It tells the story of a one-winged butterfly named Patrick alongside his caterpillar friend Marty, and butterfly pal Jennifer who is afraid of heights.

Together, the trio faces their fears becoming the unlikely heroes fighting against weather adversity, humans, and three evil birds. The movie is directed by first-time director Sophie Roy.

‘Butterfly Tale’ is written by Heidi Foss and Lienne Sawatsky and produced by Marie-Claude Beauchamp for CarpeDiem and Ulysses’ Emely Christians. The lead characters are voiced by Tatiana Maslany, known for her role in ‘Orphan Black’, and Mena Massoud, known for his role in ‘Aladdin’.

The movie is slated to be released sometime in May 2024.
