When Snoop Dogg publicly announced that he was quitting smoking “after much consideration” and having discussed it with his family, many users on X (formally Twitter) and Instagram were quick to express skepticism about such news. Something felt off. And time has ultimately proven those skeptics right, as it was revealed that it was all part of an advertising campaign starring the Californian rapper. Snoop ain’t quitting cannabis.

Snoop Dogg plays with the smoke

It was all a play on words. The official announcement stated the following: “After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.” However, the crucial aspect lay in the term he used to refer to the main verb, “smoke.” In this seemingly insignificant linguistic matter, the key to the ruse resided.

Snoop advertises smoke-free stove

The idea was sublime: captivate everyone with an incredible announcement and then reveal that what the artist is actually renouncing is, quite literally, smoke because the company he is promoting deals precisely with smoke-free stoves. This company is Solo Stove, which, through its latest product, targets consumers with an outdoor fire pit that ignites and stays lit without combustion producing any visible gas.

The advertising video explains all.

“I have an announcement. I’m giving up smoke. I know what you’re thinking: ‘Snoop, smoke is kinda your whole thing.’ But I’m done with it.

“Done with the coughing and my clothes smelling all sticky. I’m going smokeless.”

Then it all becomes clear as the camera pulls back and he showcases the featured product with a wry laugh and toasted marshmallow.
