Sofía Vergara feared career prospects post ‘Modern Family’

The actress revealed her mindset when the 10-year-running sitcom was coming to an end.

Update:
The actress revealed her mindset when the 10-year-running sitcom was coming to an end.

Sofía Vergara, star of ‘Modern Family’, has confessed that she feared she would have limited career prospects following the 10-year running sitcom.

The 50-year-old actress is now a returning judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’, having made a verbal contract with NBC and Simon Cowell that she would return for season 18 of the show, alongside her good friend Heidi Klum.

The ‘Modern Family’ era

‘Modern Family’ was incredibly popular, with Vergara picking up eleven Screen Actors Guild Awards and four nominations from both the Golden Globes and the Primetime Emmy Awards for her infamous role as dynamic, exuberant, and loveable Gloria Delgado-Pritchett.

Vergara, who has had a two-decade acting career, with more than 40 credits on her resume, was not shy about playing the role, as she let her character’s personality shine with charm and humor, yet the star was still self-conscious about her future prospects.

Though the show had great success, Vergara was not keen to see what was on the other side of the long stint with the cast when the 250-episode show ended in 2020.

Worried about the future

Vergara told Variety in an interview that she was concerned about her future prospects after the show.

“I was very worried,” the actress said. “Like, ‘What am I going to do next?’ You know, as an actor, there is a very small percentage that you’re going to find a show with that success, so I said that I am going to go and do the opposite because I know I won’t find that again — and that’s how I found ‘AGT’ [’America’s Got Talent’].”

Since ‘Modern Family’ ended, Vergara has moved on to co-host the show ‘America’s Got Talent’, where she has appeared in over 60 episodes.

The actress has also been making waves on streaming giant Netflix, with the series ‘Griselda’, which follows the story of notorious Colombian drug lord, Griselda Blanco.

‘Modern Family’ reboot?

As for a ‘Modern Family’ reboot, Vergara is not opposed to the concept and has no fears about reprising her role as Gloria.

“Maybe in 30 years they can do again a ‘Modern Family,’” the actress mused.

“Like now you know how it’s in fashion?”
