For the fifth time, ‘Trekkies’ around the world will this weekend be celebrating the official ‘Star Trek’ Day.

To celebrate this weekend’s fifth annual Star Trek Day, fans of the iconic science-fiction franchise will be given free access to the premiere episodes of several Star Trek TV series, as well as a number of Short Treks, over the coming days.

When is Star Trek Day?

First officially held in 2020, Star Trek Day takes place on September 8, the anniversary of the original TV series’ small-screen debut back in 1966. Since it was first broadcast 58 years ago, Star Trek has expanded into a franchise encompassing a range of series and films, in addition to video games, books and comics.

Which Star Trek premiere episodes are available for free?

According to Star Trek’s official website, ‘Trekkies’ will be able to watch the following premiere episodes and Short Treks, starting on Saturday September 7 and ending on Friday September 13:

Star Trek: The Original Series - “The Cage”

Star Trek: The Next Generation - “Encounter at Farpoint, Part I & II”

Star Trek: Voyager - “Caretaker, Part I & II”

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - “The Emissary, Part I & II”

Star Trek: Enterprise - “Broken Bow Part I & II”

Star Trek: The Animated Series - “Beyond the Farthest Star”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - “Strange New Worlds”

Star Trek: Lower Decks - “Second Contact”

Star Trek: Discovery - “The Vulcan Hello”

Star Trek: Picard - “Remembrance”

Star Trek: Short Treks“The Girl Who Made the Stars,” “The Trouble with Edward,” “Ask Not,” “Runaway,” and “Ephraim and Dot”

Where can you watch the Star Trek premiere episodes for free?

The episodes will be free to watch on Paramount+ partner platforms (Amazon, Apple, Roku), the Paramount+ YouTube page, Pluto TV and the Paramount+ free content hub (US only).

How else is Star Trek Day being celebrated?

For this year’s Star Trek Day, the franchise has unveiled the campaign “Take the Chair, Make an Impact”, an initiative which “invites fans to see themselves in the iconic U.S.S. Enterprise captain’s chair and ask themselves, ‘What would I do if I were setting the course to the future?’”

Star Trek has partnered with three non-profit organisations that share the franchise’s stated core values of “diversity, inclusion, acceptance and hope”: Code.org, which helps children to learn computer science; DoSomething.org, which encourages youngsters to drive change; and Outright International, which campaigns for LGBTIQ people’s rights.

What’s more, Star Trek events are being held over the coming days in Chicago, Illinois; Berlin, Germany; and Vancouver, Canada.
