Taylor Swift is once again at the top of the charts, but this time it’s her upcoming cinematic release that has brought success.

On Thursday the singer announced that ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ will be released as a film later this year. By Friday, 24 hours after pre-sale tickets went on sale, the film had racked up more than $26 million in pre-sales.

Deadline reports that the the pre-sale numbers already put Swift ahead of some of the biggest-grossing films of all time.

In fact, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ now holds the record for the most pre-sales in the first 24 hours, thrashing the previous best of $16.9 million for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

What is the ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour’ release date?

The tickets went on sale on Thursday 31 August at 8:15am (ET) and the interest has been enormous. The movie has smashed the previous record for first day pre-sales and we’re still weeks away from the release date.

Swift announced on social media that ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour’ movie will premiere in cinemas on 13 October.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful and electric experience of my life so far and I am delighted to tell you that it will soon hit the big screen,” she said.

Within hours AMC, the country’s largest movie theatre chain, announced that pre-sales had surpassed $10 million.

Hollywood move other films to avoid Taylor Swift clash

AMC’s press release also revealed that they plan to adjust the release of other Hollywood movies to allow cinema space for ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour’. Organisers even created a separate movie ticket sales portal to help cater for the huge demand.

Due to its expected success, the release of the film ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ has been brought forward to 6 October. Previously, the release date was scheduled for 13 October.

As well as being the most-streamed female artist on Spotify, Taylor Swift is currently on a massive sell-out global tour. The huge interest in the live show, and the relative scarcity of tickets, are expected to boost ticket sales for the movie.
