Taylor Swift’s fans offer a touching tribute to her late grandmother

Taylor Swift became emotional mid-show when fans gave the singer a sweet surprise.

On night one of Taylor Swift’s three-night set of weekend shows in Nashville, Tennessee, fans took a moment to give back to the singer.

During the show, Swift performed the song ‘Majorie’, which is a tribute to her maternal grandmother, the opera singer Marjorie Finlay.

Fans decided to give the singer their own tribute to her grandmother when dozens of fans held up printed pictures of her grandmother.

A touching tribute to her late grandmother

“What are you trying to do to me?” Swift asked her fans as she sat down on her piano. “Oh my god, that was so beautiful.”

“So that song, ‘Marjorie’, that was a song that I wrote about my mom’s mom, my grandmother,” she explained in case anyone at her concert wasn’t up-to-date on Swift trivia. “She was a singer too. And she passed away when I was 13.”

“I just know that my mom, right now, is just like bawling and has been for the solid last five-and-a-half minutes, and I love you guys so much. That was so meaningful and so special,” she added.

The plan was the brainchild of one fan, Jessica Morris, who organized the project via social media.

“I couldn’t be more proud of making this crazy idea into reality. Lugging 300 copies around a crowded stadium wasn’t ideal, but for her I’d do it, ‘a million little times’!” she wrote on a TikTok caption of the video showing Swift’s reaction.

Swift announced ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’

Also on Friday’s show, Swift announced to her audience that she would be releasing the rerecording of her 2010 album to be titled ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’, which will also feature six additional songs.

Swift began rerecording her albums after she lost the rights to her masters during her contract with Big Machine Records when her old manager, Scooter Braun, bought her first six albums.

But under her new contract with Republic Records, she is able to rerecord her work, meaning she is now able to claim ownership of those six albums.

‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ is set to be released on July 7, 2023
