The movie nominated for 10 Oscars in 2025 that has been completely forgotten in 2026

The Oscars are the most eagerly awaited event in the film industry year after year, and the 98th edition promises plenty of drama on March 15. This year’s ceremony features standouts such as Sinners, which has become the most-nominated film in Oscar history with 16 nods, but other films stand out for the opposite reason – and one case in particular is especially striking.

That film is Wicked, the musical directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Split into two parts, the first movie picked up 10 Oscar nominations and won two awards, which makes it all the more surprising that its second installment has been completely shut out of this year’s ceremony.

A musical that went from being an Oscar standout to disappearing entirely

One of the most highly regarded musicals in recent years has failed to win over the Academy this time around. The second chapter’s fate is all the more surprising given that the first installment was one of the major talking points at the 97th Academy Awards.

Our Meristation team’s review of Wicked: Part Two says that it “is a strong closing chapter for a fantastic musical that we’ve enjoyed from beginning to end. It’s a more introspective film, so some of its themes deepen the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba with a tone that is cheerful, but also melancholy.”
