The reasons behind the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck split

After several months of speculation about the state of their relationship, Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage, doing so on the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony.

The couple originally married in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, however, they held a larger second wedding ceremony in Georgia on August 20 of the same year. In the legal documents obtained by TMZ, the singer listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024.

Rumours of their separation began circulating in May after the couple was not seen together in public for more than 40 days. Fame carries this level of scrutiny.

Why did Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck separate?

As for the reasons behind the separation, neither of them has shared any details publicly. That said, People reported that Lopez carefully considered her decision before choosing to file for divorce against Affleck and came to the painful conclusion that “it’s time to move on” for various reasons, including the attitude of her partner.

“She is very disappointed and sad, but Ben has given her no indication that he wants to continue their marriage,” a source told the outlet. “He hasn’t shown any commitment or interest in making their marriage work. It has reached a point where she just needs to take care of herself.”

Several more sources told the outlet that Lopez grew tired of waiting, which led her to file for divorce: “She put in a lot of effort to make things work and is heartbroken,” they said. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”

JLo “humiliated” by Affleck separation

Previously, a source had shared with Page Six that JLo was “furious” and felt “humiliated” by her separation from the actor famous for roles in Batman, Argo and Pearl Harbor among many others, especially since he was said to be the one who had taken the first step to rekindle their romance more than 17 years after their initial engagement.

“He humiliated her because she made such a big deal about him being the love of her life. They got married two years ago. This is some kind of record – they’re not young kids,” the source said, adding that the singer is upset because they both involved their children in their relationship.

Their blended family included Lopez’s 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, as well as Affleck’s children – 18-year-old Violet, 15-year-old Seraphina, and 12-year-old Samuel – whom he shares with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.
