Update:

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco announced their engagement in December and while fans have been eagerly waiting for more details of their wedding day to emerge, for now, the couple are focused on their careers - planning their big day can wait.

Gomez hit the red carpet at this year’s Academy Awards back in March to promote Emilia Pérez which received 12 nominations. In the meantime, she was on set filming season five of Only Murders in the Building. The couple also released a new album, a joint collaboration of duets: I Said I Love You First later that month.

So there hasn’t been much time to dedicate to planning their wedding, and as of the moment, no date has been set although both Selena and Benny have been constantly asked about it by the media.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco discuss their wedding

One detail about their wedding has emerged - an item that will be on the menu. Both Gomez and Blanco share a love of food - especially Benny, who is a dab hand in the kitchen. He brought out his debut cookbook Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends last year, an entertaining ode to his favorite recipes, including Kugel, banana pudding and cabbage rolls.

The couple were guests on the Table Manners podcast hosted by English singer Jessie Ware and her mother Lennie. Benny, making his third appearance on the podcast, joined his fiance and both chatted about how their relationship developed, their first date at legendary LA eatery Jitlada and their wedding day.

“We haven’t figured out anything in our wedding yet. The only thing I’ve said straight up, as a part of the food, is that I want Jake to do the challah,” Selena told Jessie and Lennie.

“Jake” is New York-born chef Jake Cohen, author of Jew-ish and I Could Nosh and star of A&E’s Jake Makes It Easy. Blanco enthused that Cohen “makes the best challah I’ve ever had”.

What is challah?

Challah is a baked bread loaf, and one of the gems of Jewish cuisine, the traditional bread of Shabbat. Instantly recognizable by its beautifully intricate braiding and irresistible aroma that make it a showpiece on the table. It has a soft, slightly sweet texture and is often enjoyed on ceremonial occasions, including weddings.

When asked about other plans for their big day, Selena admitted she is too shy to have a ‘first dance’ with her husband. “I don’t think we’re looking at having one of those because... I just feel embarrassed,” she explained. “I will have a special dance with my papa, my mom’s father. He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle”.
