Travis Kelce opens up about dating Taylor Swift, his favorite song of hers and takes aim at her ex Joe Alwyn
The Chiefs QB opened up about his relationship on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast: “She’s very self aware, she understands situations. That’s why I really started to fall for her because she’s so genuine”.
Travis Kelce admitted that he tried to keep his relationship with Taylor Swift low key as much as he could during the early days of their romance but with both of them in the media spotlight, keeping it completely private was always going to be impossible. “Nobody really knew what was going on. We kept it between us as much as we could. But once she came to a game, obviously it was...”
Were Travis Kelce’s comments about privacy aimed at Joe Alwyn?
“You want to keep things private but I’m not here to hide anything - that’s my girl, that’s my lady. I’m proud of that,” he continued - which some deciphered as a slight dig at Taylor’s ex, the fiercely private Joe Alwyn. “I’m not sitting here, how to juggle, thinking ‘How can I keep this under wraps?’ You just don’t want to let everybody into your personal life and be able to comment on it, knowing that everything she does is getting a headline”.
Travis and Taylor have been an item since last year, publicly announcing their romance when the singer turned up to cheer on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in September. “It’s been cool,” Kelce told The Boys (Will Compton and Taylor Lewan) on today’s edition of Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. “It’s a different demographic to the NFL really, so it’s been cool to dabble in that and see her following and everything. It’s been fun because kids are way more into the game and Chiefs fans have turned into her fans. I’ve had fun with just about every aspect of it, it’s just, when you’re at home you want privacy - and you don’t always get that”.
Since then the couple have been supporting each other in their chosen professions. Taylor has regularly attended Chiefs’ home games while Travis has been watching from the wings for several of Taylor’s sell-out shows during her globe-trotting Eras Tour - notably making a cameo appearance on stage at Wembley on Sunday night.
Kelce on which of Taylor Swifts qualities he likes
“She’s very self aware, but at the same time it’s like, she understands situations and I think that’s why I really started to fall for her for how genuine she is around friends, family... it can get crazy for somebody with that much attention, and she just keeps it so chilled, so cool. I admire her for that,” Kelce said. “The first game she came to against the Bears. I was like, ‘Hey, yeah, okay, so I could probably set you up with everything’ and she just walked right through the front door. There was no going down to talk to security, making sure she gets to her seat. She was like, I just want to be around family and friends and experience this with everybody. I was like, ‘Damn, she’s in the madness man, she wants to be a part of it, she wants to support me and do things like that. Man, she really won me over with that one”.
Travis has been equally bowled over by Taylor’s shows. “The concerts are electric... And she’s just switched it up - she came out with the new album, so she’s incorporated that into the new show. She’s having fun up there, so I can enjoy seeing her in her element, killing it on stage. I love the show man, she’s got bangers”.
Travis Kelce reveals his favorite Taylor Swift song and explains why he loves it
Which took The Boys onto the next subject: out of all of Taylor’s songs, which ones are in his Top 3? “I really started listening to Taylor’s music when she came out with 1989. I knew who she was before that, we are the same age so through high school and everything I knew who Taylor was and she was getting her career started. But I think 1989 was when it really started to go crazy, so I’m gonna say Blank Space because that was the first one. I’ll put that one at No.1, it’s a banger.
“Number two... I’ll go Cruel Summer. Cruel Summer is one of the ones she opens with at her show, and I was like, when she comes out and it’s just electric in the stadium and she goes into an absolute banger like that. I was fired up when that happened in the first show I was ever at″.
“What would be my third...? I’ll say So High School. It’s got a little bit of a sentimental meaning, I guess...” A not entirely unsurprising choice seeing as So High School, track 22 off The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology is reportedly about them being the ultimate high school couple, complete with glaring references to the quarterback’s appearance on Kiss, Marry, Kill in 2016 when he was quizzed by Kristina Zias about his favorite type of woman.
Travis turned up for Sunday’s show at Wembley, the last of three nights at the London venue. Taylor jets out to mainland Europe for a string of shows before returning for a further five nights at Wembley, equaling the record run of sell-out dates set by Take That in 2011.
