Las Vegas police have confirmed that Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been arrested in connection with the 1996 murder of hip-hop star Tupac Shakur.

Davis was arrested on Friday morning but officials have not yet publicised the exact nature of the charges. The indictment is expected to be released later on Friday.

For 27 years there has been little movement in the case that captured the world’s attention and stunned music fans. The news of Davis’ arrest could represent the first evidence of a real break in the case that robbed the world of hip-hop of one of its most talented and widely-adored stars.

Did Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis kill Tupac Shakur?

At this stage it is still unclear what Davis has been charged with, so the extent of his alleged involvement in the crime is still unknown. However Davis has previously made reference to the killing in public appearances and in a memoir released in 2019.

In ‘Compton Street Legend’ Davis revealed that he was in the car that shot at Shakur on that infamous night in September 1996. Earlier this year the home of Davis’ wife was raided by the police. It has since emerged that the police had been searching for evidenceconcerning the murder of Tupac Shakur.”

In his memoir Davis detailed his life as a member of a the notorious South Side Central Crips gang. He was a childhood friend of Eazy-E, a founder of rap group NWA.

In 2018 Davis was diagnosed with cancer and gave an interview in which he admitted to being inside the Cadillac when Shakur was shot and fatally wounded. In the course of those comments he indicated that his nephew Orlando Anderson had been the one who fired the gun. Anderson denied that he was involved and was killed in a shooting two years later.

The death of Tupac Shakur remains the subject of constant speculation and global interest; after more than a quarter of a century it looks as though charges will soon be brought against at least one of the alleged perpetrators.
