What is Neal Brennan famous for? The comedian and writer’s TV shows and podcast
In his third Netflix original comedy special, the 50-year-old comedian offers his views on a myriad of topics.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1973, Brennan is best known for co-creating and co-writing the Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show (2003–2006) with Dave Chappelle and for his Netflix stand-up comedy special 3 Mics which was released in 2017.
The young Brennan originally cut his teeth in the Boston comedy circuit and combined stand-up with writing for The Source magazine before moving to Los Angeles in 1995.
It was the late 90s when he first worked with Dave Chappelle and after a series of poorly received films, the pair began to work on the sketch comedy show the Chappelle’s Show which premiered in 2003 on Comedy Central.
Brennan directed some sketches in the show’s second season, including the iconic sketch featuring Chappelle as musician Rick James and was was nominated for three Emmy Awards in 2004 for his work on the show as a director, writer and producer. By the end of its second season Chappelle’s Show was Comedy Central’s highest-rated program.
Podcasts
Brennan moved into podcasting in 2011 and along with comedian Moshe Kasher, and DJ Douggpound (Doug Lussenhop) started a podcast called The Champs.
Guests on the show included actor/comedians Wayne Brady, Chris Rock, Mario Joyner, Shawn and Marlon Wayans with the podcast ending in 2016.
Brennan continues to podcast and his latest venture is based on his Netflix comedy special, “Blocks” as the 50-year-old comic interviews friends and colleagues about the things that make them feel lonely, isolated, and like something’s wrong - and how they are persevering despite these blocks.
Netflix releases
Following the success of previous Netflix originals which include 2017′s “3 Mics” and the 2022 “Blocks” which spawned the podcast of the same name, Neal Brennan is set to release “Crazy Good” where the comedian offers his perspective on a wide range of topics ranging from crypto and millionaire mindsets, to his ever-evolving views on mental health and relationships.
