What is ‘The Chosen’ Season 4 about?
‘The Chosen’ insider gives fans a glimpse of what to expect in season four — and reveals what Jonathan Roumie is really like.
The VP of creative content of ‘The Chosen’, Katherine Warnock, has given a behind-the-scenes look at the cast and crew as they begin filming for the fourth season of the television series.
Tension ramping up in Season 4
Warnock, who is in charge of enormous undertakings on set such as the scene with Jesus’ miracle where he feeds 5000 people after a day of teachings, has let fans know what themes they can expect to arise in the upcoming season.
The creative VP told the Daily Signal that as the atmosphere around Jesus intensifies with pressure from religious leaders and Roman soldiers, the producers are careful about portraying the events accurately.
“It’s going to be another hard-hitting season, where we grapple with the realities of what it is to follow Jesus,” Warnick said.
“What it is to be a Christian, that human insight into how much Jesus allows people to be in process that I think we often overlook or dismiss or minimize, and so, I love that [in] this season, we will portray that in vastly new ways.
“The tension is ramping up—both the power, the beauty, but also the tragedy. And isn’t that the reality of life?”
Who is Jonathan Roumie?
Warnock also commented on Jonathon Roumie, who plays the leading role as Jesus of Nazareth. She said Roumie takes his role very seriously, and unlike other characters he has played, he hopes to hang on to this one for life.
“[Roumie] will say … ‘This is the one character I never try to let go of,’” Warnick said. “He is so sincere. He is so deeply loving, and he really, really loves Jesus.”
The VP added that Roumie was able to portray the Messiah so well because of his great talent as a “method actor”, but most importantly “his profound personal relationship with Jesus.”
“He knows this is the role he was created to do, so he takes it as, like, a missional assignment, if you will,” she said.
‘The Chosen’ track record
‘The Chosen’, directed by Dallas Jenkins and released by Angel Studios, is an imagined portrayal of Jesus’ life and ministry from the perspective of those who meet Him. Roumie plays the role of Jesus.
The series’ first season was the biggest crowd-funded entertainment project of all time, with $10 million raised from more than 19,000 people, with its second and third season seeing donations of $50 million from the fan-supported model — and more than 500 million views
‘The Chosen’ has a goal to produce seven seasons in total, with its fourth season set to begin streaming January 2024.
Episodes of ‘The Chosen’ are available to stream for free on the Angel Studios website.
