Liam Payne’s final moments on social media were tragically intimate. His last Snapchat post, shared not long before his death, captured a shirtless Payne, smiling next to his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The mirror selfie, showing Payne relaxed and content, was reportedly taken within an hour of the accident that claimed his life.

The former One Direction star’s unexpected death came after a fall from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palmero Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday evening. Payne, aged 31, was reported to have fallen shortly after 5 p.m., local time.

He also posted the a video, possibly from a day or two earlier, sharing with his many devoted followers what the couple’s plans were for the day.

His Snapchat feed painted a picture of an enjoyable getaway in the Argentinian capital. One, captioned “Lovely day in Argentina,” showed the singer basking in his surroundings. Another post hinted at some playful plans for the future, with Payne mentioning he and Cassidy were planning to dress as Forrest Gump for Halloween. He also shared that they were enjoying their relaxed routine of late mornings, waking up at 1 p.m., and indulging in some quality time together.

In a quieter moment, Payne shared a simple but telling message, “Happy I got some time away,” paired with a heart emoji. The underlying sentiment of these posts suggested he was enjoying a break from the usual pressures of fame. He even talked about playing polo, again.

“Today, we ride. We’re going to ride some horses,” he said. “Think I’m going to play polo again, which is going to put me out of action for about six weeks.

“It’s so hard to do, number one, my back and my neck from swinging that hammer around... or mallet, I think it’s called if you’re in the know. It hurts a lot, it’s very tough to do.”
