The Latin Grammys reach a landmark year - the awards ceremony, which recognizes the best in Latin music, is celebrating its 25th anniversary and there will be some surprises in store to commemorate its progress during the past quarter of a century.

Among the changes for this year’s gala is the addition of two new categories: Best Latin Electronic Music Performance, and Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album.

Last month, the Latin Recording Academy published the full list of nominations in all 58 categories for the 2024 Latin Grammys after the first round of voting by academy members. The ceremony recognizes the best in music by Latin artists - singers, writers, performers, new artists, releases in various genres (pop, urban, hip hop, rock... etc) for recordings and releases issued between 1 June 2023 to 31 May 2024. Nominated songs must be new compositions and contain a minimum percentage of lyric content (60%) in Spanish, Portuguese, or any native regional dialect.

The final round of voting began on Friday 27 September and closed on Thursday 10 October.

Édgar Barrera tops the list of nominations for the second year running, He already has 21 Latin Grammy awards and this year is up for another nine, including Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year.

Other artists who are expected to go home with at least one award include Keityn, with six nominations, Juan Luis Guerra with five while Feid, Kany García, Carín León and Kali Uchis all have four.

Among the well known names are Anitta, Camilo, Jorge Drexler, Fonseca, Nathy Peluso, Karol G, Marc Anthony, Rubén Blades, Danny Ocean and Shakira.
