When is the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 2025: SNL host and guest for season 50’s first show
NBC’s live sketch comedy variety show returns to our screens soon after a four-week break. Here’s who will be entertaining us.
Missing Saturday Night Live? Fear not, the wait is almost over, with the first episode of 2025 just around the corner as season 50 prepares to return.
The last episode of 2024, number 10 of the current season, was broadcast on December 21, with comedian, writer and actor Martin Short hosting and Irish artist Hozier providing the music on the most-watched Christmas episode in three years.
When does Saturday Night Live return?
After a four-week break, Saturday Night Live will return to our screens with episode 50 of season 11, which will be aired, as ever, on NBC on Saturday, January 18.
Emmy-winning stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chapelle will host the show for the fourth time, his most recent involvement coming in November 2022. His three previous appearances came immediately after elections in the United States, although on this occasion he will host the episode that is broadcast two days before Donald Trump takes office for a second time.
Multi-platinum selling rapper GloRilla will make her SNL debut as the musical guest. The 25-year-old from Tennessee has been nominated in two categories at the 2025 Grammy Awards, which take place on February 2, for her track “Yeah Glo!”
What else do we know about Saturday Night Live season 50?
Saturday Night Live has also revealed that Timothée Chalamet will follow in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish and Drake (among others) in being both the host and musical guest on the following episode of the season, which airs on Saturday, January 25.
Season 50 is due to end after its 20th episode, scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
