‘White Lotus’ star Aimee Lou Wood: “I’ve never seen an actress on TV with teeth like mine”

A new face will have become familiar to many Netflix users in recent times, with British actress Aimee Lou Wood following her breakout television role in teen comedy “Sex Education” by crossing the pond to star in the third season of HBO’s “The White Lotus”.

In 2021, the 31-year-old won a BAFTA (British Academy Television Award) for Best Female Comedy Performance for her portrayal of ditzy Aimee Gibbs in “Sex Education”. However, Wood revealed in an interview with Stylist that she never thought she would even get the part…because of her “unconventional” teeth.

“Perfect Hollywood teeth”

“”Sex Education" came along and I was like, ‘Well, what have I seen on Netflix? Everyone has perfect Hollywood teeth. It’s completely in my head. It’s a myth I’ve told myself”.

Growing up, Wood was ashamed of her prominent teeth, which made her feel insecure about how she looked. Until, that is, Georgia May Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stones frontman Mick, came along with her campaign for English cosmetics company Rimmel in 2009.

Wood “draws attention” to “gorgeous” teeth

“I’ve never seen an actress on TV with teeth like mine,” Wood explained in an Instagram video. ”When Georgia Jagger did the 'Get the London Look' and she had the gap teeth, that was a huge moment. I then thought, ‘I am going to put red lipstick on and I am going to draw attention to it.’”

Jagger herself got in touch with Wood after learning of her comments, complimenting her “gorgeous” teeth for giving her a “unique,” “fascinating,” and “refreshing” look.

Since then, the English star has never looked back, making a successful move from the stage (she made acting debut in the theater in 2016) to the screen.

That has included a stateside switch for “The White Lotus,” where said “Hollywood teeth” are prevalent among her co-stars.

Wood, however, is unfazed having long made the decision to embrace her looks: “All I ever do is take the piss out of myself. Even the way “White Lotus” fans are talking about me and my teeth - that I don’t have veneers or Botox - it feels a bit rebellious.”
