Who are the 2024 Emmy Awards ceremony hosts? Getting to know father and son Eugene and Dan Levy

After winning Emmys for “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020, the Levys will be the first father-son hosts of the ceremony in Los Angeles.

After winning Emmys for “Schitt’s Creek” in 2020, the Levys will be the first father-son hosts of the ceremony in Los Angeles.

The 2024 Emmy Awards will take place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Love in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, with the ceremony to be hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, who created and starred together in critically acclaimed sitcom “Schitt’s Creek”.

The Canadians will, unsurprisingly, become the first ever father-son duo to host the Emmys, and the first co-hosts of the gala since 2018, when Michael Che and Colin Jost did the honours.

Levy duo win 2020 Emmy Awards for “Schitt’s Creek”

The Levys are, of course, no strangers to the Emmy Awards. In 2020, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, they remotely scooped nine prizes for their work together on “Schitt’s Creek”. Father Eugene won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, with son Dan taking home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

The show won in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, while the younger Levy also received writing and directing gongs.

And there could be more heading to the Levy family home. As well as hosting, Eugene has been nominated for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy”.

After being confirmed as 2024 hosts, the Levys released the following statement, as lighthearted as you’d expect: “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”

What else have Eugene and Dan Levy been in?

Eugene, 77, also won two Emmy Awards in the early 1980s for his writing work on Canadian sketch comedy show “Second City Television” (SCTV). More recently, he is perhaps best known internationally for his role as Jim’s embarrassing Dad in the “American Pie” movie franchise, as well as “Bringing Down the House” and “Father of the Bride Part II”.

Dan, meanwhile, starred in the final season of HBO sitcom “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, season 4 of Netflix’s “Sex Education,” and Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” remake.
