Who is Ingrid Andress? The singer who sang the national anthem while drunk at the Home Run Derby
The country singer reacted to being mocked for “one of the worst” ever performances on ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ with a serious post on social media.
The Home Run Derby is arguably one of the most fun events on the Major League Baseball calendar, in which eight MLB batters attempt to score as many home runs as possible within a specific time limit. The Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernández was the surprise winner of the 2024 edition, which will likely be best remembered for Ingrid Andress’ disastrous performance of the national anthem.
“One of the worst” ever renditions of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’
The 32-year-old country singer was chosen to perform ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at Global Life Field in Arlington on Sunday (July 15), a decision organisers surely began to regret as soon as she “hit” her first note.
Needless to say, social media wasn’t kind to Andress, with her rendition of the national anthem deemed “one of the worst” ever. “My ears are bleeding,” was another fairly common assessment.
You can make your own judgement.
“Drunk” Andress checks into rehab after Home Run Derby
The online mocking, however, was followed by what appeared to be serious post on Monday from the singer herself, who revealed she was drunk and would be checking into rehab following her performance.
Andress wrote on X: “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”

Andress has released two studio albums, while two of her singles have charted on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2019, her debut track ‘More Hearts Than Mine’ reached number 30, while ‘Wishful Drinking,’ a 2021 collaboration with Sam Hunt, peaked at number 47.
